KETTERING, Ohio - The IPFW women's golf team carded the second-lowest score in program history, a 304, in the first round of the University of Dayton Fall Invitational, and sit in a tie fourth place of 17 teams with a day to play in the competition.
The only score lower than the 304 put up on Monday afternoon was the 301 scored by the team at its own IPFW Fall Classic on October 16, 2007.
After 18 holes, the Mastodons sit tied with Ohio with the 304, and go into the final day of competition chasing Detrot (291), Oakland (298), and Valparaiso (299). Eastern Illinois (310), Chicago State (313), Dayton (314), Findlay (317), Youngstown State (318), Evansville (325), Robert Morris (326), Alabama State (329), Bellarmine (330), Northern Kentucky (331), IUPUI (331), and Otterbein (340) provide the chase pack, looking to catch up with the 'Dons.
Allison Curtis led the team with a career-low 73, the fifth-lowest single-round score in school history, and the lowest since Ashton Taft shot a 72 in the second of three rounds at last season's Summit League Championship.
Today, Taft shot a 74, which marks the sixth-lowest single-round in school history. Curtis' and Taft's scores are tied for eighth, and 10th in the field, respectively.
Sydney Bailey is sitting in a tie for 23rd after a first-round 78, as Alyssa Turney shot a 79 to put her in a tie of 32nd, capping the scoring four for the Mastodons. Taylor Lamphier rounded out the Mastodon women in attendance with an 83, tying for 59th in the field of 94 golfers.
The squad returns to action tomorrow morning in the second of two rounds of the University of Dayton Fall Invitational.
