FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW Mastodon men's basketball team is gearing up for a three-game weekend at the EMU "Ice Man" Classic, hosted by Eastern Michigan University, where IPFW will face Texas-Pan American, Eastern Michigan, and Eastern Illinois.

SCOUTING THE BRONCS
Texas-Pan American comes into the Friday afternoon game having won their first game of the season over the Rochester Warriors by a 74-65 score on Wednesday night.
In that game, Brandon Provost scored a game-high 27 points, while Aaron urbanus added 18, as both went 4-for-6 from
long range. Provost and Justin Leathers each pulled down seven rebounds, while Jesus Delgado gave out seven scores.
Provost averages a team-best 18.7 points per game, while his 6.0 rebounds per game are tops on the squad. Aaron
Urbanus averages 15.0 points, while Delgado pours in 7.7 points per contest. Josh Cleveland and Justin Leathers each average five rebounds per game, while Delgado has dished out 16 assists (5.2 assists per game), with Provost and Urbanus each giving out nine helpers. Shaquille Hines has a team-best six blocked shots, as Leathers, Provost, and Lauri Toivonen each have three steals.
STREAKING WITH 20+
IPFW guard Frank Gaines has scored at least 20 points in each of his last eight games, reaching at least 24 in those eight. That streak is currently the longest in NCAA Division I, with the next closest held by Kevin Foster of Santa Clara who has four.
Gaines scored a league-best 32 points in the opening game of the season, a new career-high for the Fort Lauderdale, Fla. native, which also pushed him past David Simon into sixth in the school's career record book. He hit 10-of-18 shots from the field, 3-of-8 from long range, and 9-of-11 from the charity stripe.
He added three rebounds, two steals and an assist, as the 'Dons narrowly fell to the Auburn Tigers 61-50.
HIGH SCORER
According to ESPN.com, IPFW senior Frank Gaines stands seventh in the country, averaging 28.0 points per game, falling from the top spot which he occupied earlier in the year.
The first meeting of the teams came in February of 2003, as UTPA won the first four meetings of the series. IPFW got its first win against the Broncs on February 27, 2005, and have since won four of the last five meetings, including the most recent contest, an 83-72 IPFW win in Fort Wayne.
In that last game, IPFW got a 27-point scoring effort from Chris Perkins, while Quentin Carouthers added 17. IPFW made 51.8 percent of its shots in the win (29-of-56), while dishing out an assist on 19-of-29 baskets. Tyler Best gave out a game-high five assists, as Perkins and DeWitt Scott each had two steals.
Frank Gaines scored a game-high 24 points, while Mario Hines scored 17 and Luis Jacobo 15. Pierre Bland pulled down nine rebounds, as the Mastodons out-rebounded the Warriors 44-to-25.
The Mastodons (1-1) never trailed in the game, as they scored 13 seconds into the contest, and didn't look back. The Warriors drew within four just six and a half minutes into the contest, before the 'Dons scored eight straight, two points each from Hines, Gaines, Kevin Harden, and Isaiah McCray.
Rochester (7-2) climbed to within single digits five times in the second half, the last at 32-23 with 3:37 to play, before IPFW closed the first half on a 10-2 run to take a 42-26 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Mastodons quickly increased the lead to 18 in the second half, before the feisty Rochester squad fought back, using an 18-5 run to climb to within as few as five with 9:15 to play in the game.
IPFW answered right back with six straight points on four Gaines free throws and a Hines dunk, and the Warriors wouldn't threaten again, as the 'Dons closed the game with a 17-point, 73-56 non-conference win.
McCray dished out a game-high four assists, while he and Bland had two steals. Hines blocked two shots, while picking up seven rebounds, to go with eight Jacobo boards.
COLLEGE SPORTS MADNESS SUMMIT LEAGUE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
