Women's Basketball to Face Ball State on Monday

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The IPFW women's basketball team will play thier first road game of the season as the group travels to Muncie, Ind. to face the Ball State Cardinals on Monday, Nov. 19. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
ABOUT THE MASTODONS
IPFW is off to a 1-1 start to the 2012 women's basketball season. Point guard Haley Seibert has been a bright spot in the lineup as the sophomore has led IPFW in scoring in each game this season. The Terre Haute natvie scored 15 points in the season opener vs. SIUE and then exploded for 18 points and a career-high seven assists against Grace.
Stefanie Mauk has impacted the team with her rebounding ability early in the year. Mauk grabbed nine boards in the opener and then five against the Lancers. Amanda Hyde is another quality player in the IPFW starting lineup as she is averaging 13 points 4.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists per contest. Erin Murphy provides the 'Dons with a spark off the bench averaging 8.5 points per game.
Indiana opponents are sprinkled throught the 2012-13 women's basketball schedule as the 'Dons will face Indiana, Valparaiso, and Purdue after the match up with Ball State. The Indiana game is on the road, but the contests against Valpo and Purdue will be played in the Gates Sports Center. Tip-off for Valpo is slated for Dec. 4 and Purdue will visit soon after on Dec. 6.
SCOUTING THE CARDINALS
The Ball State women's basketball team is still searching for their first win of the season as they were recently defeated 70-45 at Marshall on Nov. 17. The Cardinals lost their season opener against Evansville 45-54 and their second loss of the season came against Butler on Nov. 13.
The Cardinals are led by Brandy Woody a 5-4 junior guard that averages 12 points and four rebounds per game. Ball State's rebounding leader is freshman Nathalie Fontaine who is pulling down 6.7 per contest. The Cardinals are shooting 33 percent from the floor early in the 2012 season which gives them a scoring average of 50.7 points. Three-point shooting has also been a problem for the Cardinals as they are only hitting 16 percent of their shots from distance.

LAST TIME OUT
The IPFW women's basketball team recorded their first win of the season by defeating Grace on Tuesday, Nov. 13 by the final score of 68-52. Every player on the roster got into the action against the Lancers as the Mastodons even their regular season record at 1-1.
The Mastodons were led by point guard Haley Seibert who scored a game-high 18 points to go with a career-high seven assists. Seibert didn't commit a single turnover and added three rebounds and a steal.
Amanda Hyde, Erin Murphy, and Rachel Mauk provided a supporting cast for IPFW with their impact scoring. Hyde shot 6-of-12 from the floor, ending the game with 12 points and four rebounds. Both Murphy and R. Mauk ended the game with eight points and three rebounds.
IPFW enjoyed a 36-20 lead at halftime and they were able to hold onto that margin for the remainder of the contest. All five freshmen saw the court against Grace and three of the five were able to score at least one field goal. Arriel Anderson and Hannah Lee were each 1-for-1 from the floor and guard Courtney Ogle added three points and four rebounds in seven minutes of action.
The Mastodons shot 47 percent from the field on 27-of-57 shooting while holding their opponents to just 37 percent for the game. IPFW was able to push the ball up the floor as they outscored Grace 10-2 in fast break points.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Ball State leads IPFW in the all-time series 3-0. The first game between these two programs was played during the 2001-02 season. The Mastodons traveled to Muncie and took a 94-50 loss. The second meeting came during the 2003-04 season and Ball State once again put more than 90 points on the scoreboard finishing that game with a 93-75 victory. The lastest clash between these in-state rivals happened during the 2006-07 season as the Cardinals hosted the Mastodons at Worthen Arena. BSU held on for a 73-62 win.
TEAM EFFORT
IPFW used every player on the roster when they hosted Grace on Nov. 13. Courtney Ogle, Arriel Anderson, and Hannah Lee scored points for the first time in their collegiate careers against the Lancers. Anderson and Lee each scored two points, while Ogle added three in seven minutes of action.
YOUTH MOVEMENT
The 2012-13 IPFW women's basketball roster does not have a single senior on the team. Four juniors will lead the underclassmen into the regular season where the 'Dons will play three of their first four games at home.
3-POINT LAND
IPFW took 30 3-point field goal attempts in the first game of the season. Haley Seibert was 5-of-6 from distance and Rachel Mauk knocked down three of her six attempts. Additional Mastodons to hit a 3-point field goal against the Cougars included Stefanie Mauk (2-for-7) and Erin Murphy (1-for-5).
