IPFW Men’s Golf Places 11th at Hummingbird Invite

SAPPHIRE, N.C. – The IPFW men's golf team ended the 2012 Hummingbird Invitational in 11th place with a two day score of 602. The Mastodons improved their score on day two of the invite with a team score of 295 after shooting a 307 on Saturday.
Western Carolina University hosted the two day tournament at the par-71, 6,767-yard Country Club of Sapphire Valley. Samford won the 2012 team championship with a two-day score of 570. Western Carolina rallied from a sixth-place tie on Saturday to finish tied for second after shooting a second round low, 284, on Sunday.
Samford's Casey O'Toole carded consecutive rounds of 69 to shoot four-under, 138, tied for the 11th-best two-round score in tournament history.
IPFW shot 307 on Saturday and a 295 on Sunday to finish the invitational with a team score of 602 (+34). E.J. Tackett was the top IPFW finisher ending the weekend tied for 22nd with a score of 147. He shot 76 on Saturday and 71 on Sunday to end the invitational five over.
Drew Imel was close behind Tackett with a two-day score of 148. He shot 74 on each day ending the weekend six over and in a tie for 25th place overall.
Patrick Kundenreich and Jacob Groninger were next in line for the Mastodons at the Hummingbird Invite. Kundenreich shot a 153 finishing 11 over with scores of 77 and 76 which placed him in a tie for 45th overall. Groninger shot an 80 on Saturday and improved with a score of 74 on Sunday to end 12 over landing him in a tie for 51st (154).
Drake Devereux and Oliver Gibson rounded out the effort for IPFW. Devereux ended Sunday with a score of 80 after shooting 77 on Saturday. He shot a 157, ending the invite in a tie for 66th. Gibson finished tied for 68th with a two-day score of 159.
