MACOMB, Ill. - The IPFW Mastodons dropped their 2012 Summit League Tournament opener on Friday, November 9 by a 5-1 score to the Oakland Grizzlies.

The Grizzlies struck quickly with a goal in the 18th minute of the match, before adding a second goal just over four minutes later. The hosts on the scoreboard added a third first-half penalty kick goal with just under 10 minutes to play in the first half, as the Mastodons found themselves trailing 3-0 through the first 45 minutes of play.

The Mastodons snapped the shutout bid 4:18 into the second half when Jackson Tooke found Kyle Ackerman for his second goal of the season, cutting the deficit to 3-1.

Oakland added a goal in the 62nd and 85th minutes to give the game its 5-1 final score.

Ackerman led the 'Dons with four shots, three on goal, while Tooke added three shots, with the pair combining for seven of the team's 10 shots in the loss. IPFW goalkeeper Brandon Cloutier picked up three saves in the loss.

The loss ends the season for the Mastodons with a 4-15-1 overall record, and despite the loss, the 'Dons end the season having won four of the last seven matches.
