Freshmen Keep Mastodons in Contention at Caribbean Intercollegiate

PONCE, Puerto Rico - Led by Eddie Tackett's second round of 68, the IPFW men's golf team stands in fifth place with 18 holes to go at the Caribbean Intercollegiate in Ponce, Puerto Rico.
IPFW moved up the team leaderboard from sixth place to the fifth spot on Tuesday after firing an impressive four-man total of 288. With a 36-hole team total of 592 (304-288), the Mastodons are four strokes back of Laval for fourth place. Heading into Wednesday's final round, tournament-host St. John's leads the field with a two-day mark of 572.
Tackett's four-under 68 tied the field's best round of the day, as the freshman sits tied for 12th place overall after recording a 79 on Monday. Jacob Groninger also fired a good score Tuesday with a one-under 71 to go with a 78 in the first round, placing the freshman tied for 20th.
With back-to-back rounds of 75, Patrick Kundenreich is tied for 24th place with Wednesday's final round waiting to be played. Bruno Carvalho stands in 27th place with rounds of 73-78, while Drew Imel is tied for 28th place after posting scores of 78-74.
Jacob Bailey is in 32nd place (77-77), while John McMillen (82-78) sits in the 33rd spot. Curtis Coverstone rounded-out the Mastodon scoring with rounds of 82-92. He is in 35th place.
The third and final round will begin promptly at 9 a.m. at the Costa Caribe Resort on Wednesday morning.
