
Mastodons Tied For Second at 2012 Summit League Championships

PRIMM, Nev. - The IPFW men's golf team has positioned itself to make program history after 36 holes at the 2012 Summit League Championships. With a 36-hole total of 566 (279-287), the Mastodons are tied for second place and trail tournament-leader IUPUI by 10 strokes heading into Tuesday's final round.
IPFW shares the second spot with Southern Utah, and has a six-shot cushion of Oral Roberts (572). Four Mastodons are placed in the top-15 of the individual competition, led by freshman Eddie Tackett and junior Bruno Carvalho.
Tackett fired a one-under 70 to begin the tournament, then followed with a even-par 71 to sit tied for seventh place overall with 18 holes to play. Tackett's day featured 10 birdies, including six in the second round.
Carvalho opened the morning with career-low and new school-record of 66, finishing eagle, birdie, birdie to complete the round. In the afternoon, he carded a 76 to end tied for ninth place with a 142.
Freshman Jacob Groninger was the third Mastodon in the top-15, ending day one tied for 12th place with a 143 (73-70).
Sophomore Patrick Kundenreich is tied for 14th after scores of 74-70 (144), while junior Drew Imel recorded rounds of 70-77 (147).
IUPUI's Ben Engle is on top of the crowded leaderboard with a 132. Engle carded a tournament-low 62 in the first round, which included a front nine mark of 29.
The third and final round will tee-off at 10:00 a.m. EST at the par 71, 7,062 yard Desert Golf Course.
