TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The IPFW women's soccer team picked up its first win of the 2012 season, scoring the first two goals of the year and holding on late for a 2-1 win over the Indiana State Sycamores.

The Mastodons (1-2-0) scored their two goals less than three minutes apart as Erin Gill and Arianne Mason each found the back of the net in the first 21 minutes of the game.

Each team put up a pair of shots in the first 15 minutes of the contest, before Gill found the back of the net when she beat the Indiana State (1-2-0) keeper far post from the left side of the box for her first collegiate score 17:29 into the game.

Less than three minutes later Tylar Allison served up a corner kick into the box, that Mason was able to flick onto the goal for her first goal of the year, giving the 'Dons the 2-0 advantage just 20:04 into the contest.

The remainder of the half was a defensive struggle, as none of Indiana State's seven shots, and IPFW's last three were able to reach the back of the net, sending the teams into halftime with a 2-0 Mastodon advantage.

The first shot of the second half came over 21 minutes into the stanza, when Indiana State's Marisa Windisch put in a free kick from 35 yards away to cut the IPFW deficit in half at 2-1.

The Sycamores put five more shot attempts up over the final 24 minutes, two of which were saved by IPFW freshman keeper Sam Pavlika, as the 'Dons were able to hold on for their first win of the 2012 season.

Indiana State out-shot IPFW 15-9, and held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The Mastodons take the week off of competition, and will next face off against the Cardinals of Ball State University in a 1 p.m. kickoff in Muncie, Indiana, on September 2.
