Mastodons and Cardinals to Clash in I-69 Battle

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW Mastodons, coming off of their first win of the 2012 season, will travel south to face off in an I-69 rivalry game against the Ball State Cardinals (2-2) who is coming off of a 1-0 loss at home against IUPUI on Friday.

SCOUTING THE MASTODONS
IPFW comes into the game after snapping a season-opening two-game losing skid with a 2-1 win over the Indiana State Sycamores.
In the game, Erin Gill struck first for IPFW's first goal of the season, before Arianne Mason pushed the Mastodons to a 2-0 lead with the eventual game-winning goal. Tylar Allison had an assist for the 'Dons.
Sam Pavlika has been in goal for the entire season for the Mastodons (270 minutes) with a 1.00 goals against average and 10 saves.
SCOUTING THE CARDINALS
Ball State, after opening the season with back-to-back wins against Northern Kentucky and Xavier, fell at home to the IUPUI Jaguars on Friday by a 1-0 score, dropping the squad to a 2-2 overall record.
In all, Ball State is in the midst of hosting nine games in a 13-game stretch.
The Cardinals have scored four goals this year, all four from different players, as Aubrey Hauenstein, Skylar Chew, Shaniece Thorpe, and Nicole Pembelton each scored this year for BSU, while the squad also added an own goal offensively. Pavla Benyrova has two assists, while Aubrey Buehler has played every minute in goal for the Cardinals with a 1.43 goals against average and 16 saves.
SERIES vs. BALL STATE
The IPFW Mastodons are looking for their first win of the all-time series against Ball State, as the Cardinals hold a 7-0-1 record in eight previous meetings. The first meeting between the teams came on November 3, 2001, a 1-0 BSU double-overtime win in Muncie. A year later the teams battled through a scoreless tie in Fort Wayne. Since then the Cardinals have rattled of six consecutive wins in the series, including a 1-0 victory in Fort Wayne a season ago.
IPFW vs. THE MID-AMERICAN CONFERENCE
In the last nine meetings between IPFW and teams from the Mid-American Conference, the result has been a hotly contested battle, with the margin for each of the nine sitting at just one goal, including a 1-0 loss to Toledo this year, and a 1-0 loss to Ball State last season.
