FORT WAYNE, Ind.-- The IPFW women's soccer team faced the Detroit Titans in an exhibition match on Friday night at the Hefner Soccer Complex. The 'Dons used the entire roster to post a 3-1 victory in their first action of the season. Danielle Bishop led the team with a two-goal performance.
The exhibition format featured three, thirty minute periods. Detroit scored the first goal, but it was IPFW that stole the show with three goals down the stretch giving the Mastodons the 3-1 win.
Danielle Bishop tied the game at 1-1 nearly three minutes after the first goal of the game. Bishop scored off a rebound as an assist was awarded to Sydney Hoareau. Bishop wasn't finished as her second goal of the contest turned out to be the game-winner in the second period. This time Bishop was assisted by Brooke Bishir.
The final goal of the game came off a breakaway from Arianne Mason. Mason ran by the Detroit defense and fired a shot to the top right corner, finding the back of the net in the 88th minute of action.
Each team made three saves on the night while using two goalkeepers. IPFW used the combo of Krysta Hedrick and Sam Pavlika in goal. Hedrick got the start and made two saves. Pavlika finished off Detroit by making one stop.
Despite the outcome, Detroit outshot IPFW 15-10 and took five corner kicks compared to zero for the 'Dons. IPFW will have two more exhibition games before the start of the regular season on Aug. 17. The Mastodons will travel to Western Michigan and to Northern Illinois to round out the preseason.
