Bishop's Goal, Assist Pace Mastodons Over Goshen

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW women's soccer team amassed 32 total shots and a season-high three goals in a non-conference 3-0 win over Goshen College on Thursday evening.

Leading the way for IPFW was Danielle Bishop, who put up 10 shots, scoring a goal and dishing out an assist, while freshmen Erin Gill and Rachel Good each also found the back of the net for IPFW.

The win improves IPFW to 4-4 on the season, and the squad has out-scored its opponents 8-6 on the year, while Goshen falls to a matching 4-4 record overall.

The Mastodons worked quickly, putting up their first shot just 14 seconds into the game, and scored the eventual game-winner less than 15 minutes later when Tessa Edwards put a pass through the box, that Gill put into the back of the net.

IPFW, despite having just one goal in the first half, the squad amassed 16 shots, six on goal, and had three corner kicks.

The second half started slowly for the Mastodons, until Bishop scored her second goal of the season when she put in her own rebound, beating the Goshen keeper and pushing IPFW's lead to 2-0 with 68:25 remaining on the clock.

Eighteen minutes later Bishop picked up an assist on one of her saved shot attempts which Good picked up and put into the back of the net, giving Bishop her first assist of the season, and Good her first collegiate goal with 3:37 remaining in the contest. IPFW got off a shot attempt and a corner kick in the final three and a half minutes, but neither found paydirt, as the 'Dons closed out their 3-0 win.

The shutout was the second in the last three games for the Mastodons and freshman goalkeeper Sam Pavlika, who saw her season goals against average dropped to 0.73 on the season, picking up three saves overall.

The Mastodons return to action on Monday, September 24, when the squad faces off against the Wright State Raiders in a game that was originally scheduled for September 7, but canceled 10 minutes into game because of lightning.
