OMAHA, Neb. - For the fourth time this season, the Mastodons fell by a 1-0 score, this time the victim on the road at the Omaha Mavericks in the Summit League opener for each squad.
Omaha (1-10, 1-0 Summit League) scored in the eighth minute of the game when Anna Sibson was able to lead a through-ball that found Danielle Archuleta for her fourth goal of the season, giving the hosts a 1-0 lead on the Maverick's first shot of the contest.
The one-goal margin would hold up for the remainder of the match, despite IPFW (4-6, 0-1 Summit) peppering Omaha with nine shots the rest of the way, four of those on goal, and each coming up empty.
Rachel Good had a team-best five shot attempts, while Erin Gill added a pair. Freshman goalkeeper Sam Pavlika picked up five saves and gave up just the solitary goal in picking up the loss.
The Mastodons return to action in one week when the squad hosts the South Dakota State Jackrabbits on October 5 in a 7 p.m. kickoff at the Hefner Soccer Complex.
