PITTSBURGH, Pa. - A pair of penalty kicks and a later goal negated a second-half IPFW score, as the Mastodons fell 3-1 to the host Pittsburgh Panthers in the 2012 PITT/Nike Invitational.

The loss drops IPFW to 0-4 on the season, while Pittsburgh improves to 2-0-2 on the year.

The teams played through a scoreless first 45 minutes, with the Mastodons striking first when senior Mitch Falkenstern found classmate Brent Helton in front of a jumble in the box, and Helton put a foot on it, putting it past Panther keeper Lee Johnston for IPFW's first goal of the season in the 53rd minute of the game.

With 29 minutes remaining, Pittsburgh was awarded a penalty kick, which was successfully converted by Nico Wrobel, who beat IPFW keeper Brandon Cloutier. Wrobel got a second chance six and a half minutes later, and converted this one as well, giving the hosts a 2-1 lead.

Trailing for the first time in the game, and with time winding down, the Mastodon offense pushed forward, and the Panthers were able to use the pressure for a strong counter-attack, and converted when Michael Tuohy put in a rebound goal from two yards out, putting the 'Dons behind 3-1 with just over three and a half minutes left in the game.

The Mastodons next face off against Duquesne at noon on Sunday, September 9 in IPFW's final match of the PITT/Nike Invitational.
