BROOKINGS, S.D. - The IPFW Mastodons close out their first western trip of the season on Saturday afternoon, as the 'Dons face off against Summit League preseason favorite South Dakota State in a 5 p.m. EST tip-off at Frost Arena.

SCOUTING THE JACKRABBITS
South Dakota State comes into the game with a 12-6 overall record and a 3-2 Summit League record after an 81-74 win over the Oakland Grizzlies on Thursday evening.
In the win, Tony Fiegen scored 24 and Jordan Dykstra scored 22 while pulling down 13 rebounds for the double-double. Wall but 21 minutes in the game, including a full 40 for Wolters.
This year the Jackrabbits, who have won their last 24 games inside of Frost Arena, are led by Wolters, who averages 20.7 points, pulling down 6.0 rebounds per game and dishing out 5.9 assists per contest. Two others, Dykstra and Fiegen average 13.3 points and 10.5 rebounds per game, while Brayden Carlson (9.1) and White (8.7) are nearly at the double-figure pace.
Dykstra pulls down a team-leading 7.1 rebounds per game, as the 'Jacks out-rebound their opponents 34,7-to-32.0. Wolters has a team-best 25 steals, as White has blocked 13 shots.
LAST TIME AGAINST THE JACKRABBITS
The IPFW Mastodons went cold in front of a nearly packed Gates Sports Center, making just 32.7 percent from the field and 11.8 percent from long range in a 74-43 loss to the South Dakota State Jackrabbits on Saturday evening.
The game was nearly a sellout, as 1,856 fans packed the gym, and saw the Mastodons fall to 10-11 on the season, and 4-8 in the Summit League, while South Dakota State, who currently sits in second place in the league standings, improved to 17-6 and 9-2 in league play.
Mario Hines led the team in scoring and rebounding with 12 points and six boards in a game that saw IPFW put together its lowest scoring output since behind held to 43 points at North Dakota State on January 31, 2009. Frank Gaines scored 10 and picked up a team-high three steals, while Justin Jordan dished out four assists.
IPFW took out to an early lead in the game, leading for most of the first seven minutes of play, and led by one at 11-10 after a Hines lay-in with 13:06 to play in the first half. SDSU proceeded to run off a 14-2 run over the next six minutes to lead by 11 24-13.
The Jackrabbits would not trail again, although IPFW seemed to claim momentum after cutting the deficit to seven with 45 seconds to play after a Michael Kibiloski three-point basket; however, back-to-back three-point baskets in the last five seconds of the half quickly turned the momentum into the favor of SDSU, who took a 13-point, 36-23 lead into the locker room at halftime.
A 9-2 run to start the second half pushed the deficit to 20, and the margin reached 32 with 8:21 to play in the game, capping a 27-8 Jackrabbit run to start the second half, as the visitors cruised to a 73-43 Summit League win.
IPFW made just 16-of-49 shots from the field, and 2-of-17 from long range. South Dakota State, who came into the game ranked first in the Summit League and in the top-15 in the NCAA in scoring average, scored their 74 points on 24-of-52 shooting from the field, and 9-of-20 from long range.
Chad White made 4-of-5 long range shots, totaling a game-high 15 points for the Jackrabbits, while Nate Wolters added 14 while dishing out five assists.
ALL-TIME SERIES
The Mastodons and Jackrabbits have an even 8-8 record in 16 all-time meetings between the two teams. IPFW ran off early in the series, winning six of the first seven meetings, and eight of the first 11, but the 'Jacks have won the last five meetings between the squads.
QUICK HITTERS
• IPFW senior Frank Gaines currently has 1,529 career points, second most in a career in IPFW history, recently passing Bruce Roland (1985-89), and needs 236 more to move into the career lead, passing Sean Gibson (1989-93) who has 1,765 over his career.
• As of the latest NCAA Rankings (January 6), IPFW ranks 63rd in rebounding margin (+5.4), 69th in steals per game (8.4), and 32nd in total points (1,138), as Frank Gaines sits 32nd in scoring, averaging 19.3 points per game
• Frank Gaines has reached double-figure scoring 70 times in his career and 33 20-point games, but saw his 27-game double-figure streak snapped against Miami (Ohio). His previous time being held to single digits was December 20, 2011 against Purdue.
• Against Judson, IPFW set single-game school records for fewest points allowed (22), and largest margin of victory (70 points)
• Earlier this year in a triple-overtime win over Texas-Pan America, IPFW set single-game school records with 57 free throw Attempts, while the team's 63 rebounds are the second-most in school history.
• IPFW is 3-4 all-time on January 10
• Nine of ten IPFW players who have seen action this season have started at least one game
• IPFW is 6-1 this season when leading at halftime, and are 15-5 under Jasick when leading after the first 20 minutes.
• Against IUPUI, the Mastodons were tied going into halftime for the first time under head coach Tony Jasick's tenure, and the second time happened just six days later against Navy.
• Tony Jasick is the 13th youngest head coach in NCAA Division I
• Six different players have led the team in scoring this season (including ties), led by Gaines, who has led the team nine times
• Gaines also stands second in career school history in free throws made and attempted, fourth in rebounding, 7th in
blocked shots and 9th in steals
• The Mastodons have out-rebounded 12-of-18 teams this season, and are 6-6 when out-rebounding their opponents
• Junior Michael Kibiloski doubled his previous career-high scoring effort last Saturday, scoring 26 against Omaha
