INDIANAPOLIS - The IPFW Mastodons got two quick goals to start the second half, and a big second half save on a penalty kick attempt from sophomore Sam Pavlika, as the Mastodons and IUPUI Jaguars played to a 2-2 draw in Summit League action on Friday evening.
IPFW got goals from Andie Lazzerini and Mayson Whitman - the first career goals from each - as the 'Dons played to their first tie in over a year, with the last draw coming on October 14, 2012 against Kansas City.
IUPUI struck quickly in the match, and on the team's third shot of the match, Tori Minnich found the back of the net for her third goal of the season, putting the hosts ahead 1-0 just 5:50 into the contest. The one-goal margin would stand for the remaining 39 minutes of the first half, as the Jaguars went into the locker room with a 1-0 advantage.
On the Mastodons' second shot of the second half, Lazzerini put a shot on goal from 22 yeards out, after working herself free against defenders, providing an equalizer in the match just 4:09 into the second stanza.
Two and a half minutes later Whitman took a pass from Sydney Hoareau and Kat Sutherly, and beat the keeper towards the far side, putting IPFW ahead 2-1.
The Jaguars used a free kick to start a rally to provide the equalizer, when Graze Perkowitz found the back of the net, tying the score at two apiece with just over 18 minutes to play in the match. With 8:16 to play, IUPUI's Alyssa Fox took a penalty kick that was stopped by Pavlika, keeping the Mastodons in the match, as the teams played the first 90 minutes through a 2-2 tie.
Despite six total shots in the next two overtime periods, neither squad could find the back of the net, as the team's ended the match in a 2-2 draw through 110 minutes of action.
The Mastodons return to action on Sunday, October 20, when the squad faces off against the Western Illinois Leathernecks in a 1 p.m. kickoff.
