Groninger Sits Three-Under at Skyhawk Classic

FIRST DAY RESULTS
BUCHANAN, Tenn. - Behind Jacob Groninger's three-under two round total, and Drake Devereux a one-under two-round, the Mastodons carded rounds of 294 and 292, sitting 14th place in the field at the Skyhawk Classic hosted by UT Martin.
The team's of 294 and 292 are the best two rounds for IPFW this fall. The 586 puts the team just 10 strokes away from fifth place in the field. Lee leads the field after the first round with a 556, as host UT Martin stands second with a 560 and Southern Illinois and Murray State each tied for third with a 570. John A. Logan (5th/576), Dalton State (6th/578), Alabama State (7th/581), Christian Brothers (8th/582), Austin Peay (8th/582), UT-Martin-Orange (10th/583), Murray State-Gold (583), Jackson State (12th/584), and Union (13th/585) sit just ahead of the 'Dons, with Tennessee State (15th/593) and Bethel (TN) (16th/614) sitting just behind the 'Dons.
Groninger shot a one-under 71 over the first 18 holes, and then ended the day with a two-under 70 for a two-round 141, tied for ninth in the field. Drake Devereux carded a two-under 70 in the first round, which was followed by a one-over 73 for a first day total of 143, a shot under par, tied for 16th overall.
Dan Wert shot a first-round 77, before following that up with a one-over 73, as his 150 is tied for 62nd. Carter Dornseif shot rounds of 77 and 76 (153 total) to tie for 71st place, as Devin Jenkins' 155 (76-79) tied him for 79th to round out the scoring five for IPFW.
Playing as individuals, Sam Hardwick and Daniel Shepard shot rounds of 151 (78-73) and 160 (80-80) to place in a tie for 66th and 82nd, respectively.
The team returns to action for the second of the two days at the Skyhawk Classic.
