CHICAGO - Behind a pair of goals from Brooke Bishir and Cassie Egle, the IPFW women's soccer team snapped an eight-match losing skid against the Loyola Ramblers by a 2-1 final score.
The win for IPFW is the first over the Ramblers, who had held a 4-0-1 lead in the all-time series against the Mastodons, and improves the team to 3-9 on the year, while Loyola falls to 4-6-4.
The Mastodons started quickly, scoring on the team's first shot of the game when freshman midfielder Gaby Romo found Brooke Bishir, who beat the charging keeper from inside the 18-yard box, giving IPFW the 1-0 advantage.
The Mastodons followed with seven minutes before halftime, when Malissa Hofmeister sent a high arching ball through the box, finding Cassie Egle who beat the keeper, putting IPFW ahead 2-0 with what would eventually be the game-winning goal.
Loyola cut the Mastodon advantage in half with a goal in the 69th minute of the match with a free kick from just outside of the 18-yard box; however, the Ramblers would not score again, as sophomore goalkeeper Sam Pavlika picked up three saves in the win.
The Mastodons return to action on Friday, October 18, when the team travels to Indianapolis to take on the IUPUI Jaguars in a 7 p.m. kickoff.
