Mastodons Fly Away from Peregrines in Lopsided Win

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW Mastodons jumped out to a 23-9 lead early in the first half, and never looked back, cruising to the team's third straight win with a 106-72 win over the Purdue Calumet Peregrines at the Gates Sports Center on Wednesday afternoon.
Mo Evans led five Mastodons in double-figure scoring with a career-high 22 points, while Michael Kibiloski scored 15, Steve Forbes 12, Joe Reed 11 and Luis Jacobo 10. Pierre Bland pulled down a game-high eight rebounds, while dishing out four assists on the afternoon. Evans also added four assists as well as seven rebounds for the Mastodons, who out-rebounded the Peregrines 43-to-27.
IPFW's 24 assists are a new season-high, while the team had a 24-to-10 assist-to-turnover ratio. Evans had a team-best four steals for the Mastodons, who had 12 steals in the contest.
A three-pointer by Kaspars Brencans gave the Peregrines a quick 3-0 lead - their only advantage of the game - before the Mastodons rallied to score the next five on a three-point play by Kibiloski and a put-back lay-in by Bland. Purdue Calumet tied the score at five, and trailed by one at 8-7 before the Mastodons ran off nine in a row to push ahead to a 17-7 lead.
The first-half lead grew to as many as 31 at 58-27 after a Kevin Harden jumper, and the Mastodons took a 58-29 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Mastodon lead grew to as many as xx in the second half, as the 'Dons were never contested in the final 20 minutes.
IPFW hit 53.4 percent (39-of-73) of its shots from the field, and 46.2 percent (12-of-26) from long range.
The Mastodons return to action on Sunday, November 24 when the team travels to Kennesaw, Ga. to face off against the Kennesaw State Owls in a 2 p.m. tip-off.
