Second Half Drops 'Dons Against Miami

OXFORD, Ohio - The IPFW Mastodons jumped out to a 52-36 lead at halftime against the Miami RedHawks; however, the hosts out-scored the Mastodons 58-35 in the second half, as the 'Dons fell to the RedHawks by a 94-87 score despite putting five players in double-figure scoring, and tying the school single-game record for three-point baskets made.
Michael Kibiloski scored 17 points for the Mastodons, while Mo Evans scored 16, Steve Forbes 14, and Joe Edwards and Joe Reed each chipped in 10, while Kevin Harden added a season-high nine points in the loss. Forbes pulled down a team-best seven rebounds, as the Mastodons out-rebounded the RedHawks 35-to-33. Edwards and Pierre Bland dished out seven and six assists, respectively, as the squad had a 20-to-16 assist-to-turnover ratio for the game.
IPFW hit 15 total three-point baskets in the loss, 12 of those coming in the first half, tying the single-game school record, previously set on December 18, 1983 against Madonna.
IPFW jumped out to a quick 10-2 lead through the first three minutes of the game, and never trailed until late in the contest. The lead reached double-digits with 9:09 on the clock on a Kibiloski three-pointer, before the hosts ran off four straight to cut the Mastodon lead to six with 7:20 to play in the opening period.
Leading by six a minute later, IPFW scored six straight on longballs from Evans and Kibiloski, pushing the lead once again to double-digits, and the Mastodon advantage reached its high-water mark at the halftime buzzer as Harden drained a long three-pointer as time expired, giving IPFW a 16-point, 52-36 lead heading into the locker room at halftime.
Miami scored the first eight points of the second half, cutting IPFW's 16-point halftime lead in half; however, the Mastodons held onto their lead, and led by 10 halfway through the second half before the RedHawks ran off a 12-2 run, knotting the game at 71 three and a half minutes later.
The RedHawks took their first lead of the game with 3:55 to play; however, the Mastodons answered back, as the lead changed hands five times total in the final four minutes of the contest. IPFW led by two at 87-85 on a tip-in by Edwards, but the RedHawks put in a final charge, out-scoring IPFW 9-0 over the final minute of the game, as six of those points came at the charity stripe.
IPFW hit 32-of-63 shots from the field in the loss (50.8%), 15-of-28 (53.6%) from long range, and half of its 16 free throw attempts. Miami went 33-of-60 from the field (55.0%), 8-of-19 on three-point attempts, and 20-of-25 on free throws.
The RedHawks were led by 26 points from Will Felder, while Will Sullivan added 23 off of the bench.
The Mastodons return home on December 7 in a Homecoming battle with the Dartmouth Big Green in a 7 p.m. tip-off at the Memorial Coliseum.
