Mastodons Host South Dakota in Home Finale

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- IPFW will host South Daktoa on Saurday, Feb. 16 in the regular season home finale. The game will be played at 2 p.m. in the Gates Sports Center as part of the 6th Annual Pink Out Event.
ABOUT IPFW
The Mastodons have now won four of their last five games pushing their overall record to 10-14. Amanda Hyde leads the team in scoring with a points per game average of 18.9. Erin Murphy and Haley Seibert also get involved in the offense as Murphy is second on the team at 12.4 ppg and Seibert pours in 8.3 at the point guard position.
Rachel and Stefanie Mauk round out the Mastodon starting five. Stefanie is the top rebounder on the team (6.3) and Rachel draws a tough assignment by guarding the opposing team's top scorer.
SCOUTING THE COYOTES
South Dakota is 12-13 overall with a 7-5 Summit League record after losing to Oakland on Thursday night 59-46. The Coyotes are currently in front of IPFW in the Summit League standings, but today's contest could even the playing field with just three games remaining in the regular season.
South Dakota has a balanced scoring attack as three player's average double digits. Nicole Seekamp leads the team with a scoring average of 13.9 ppg. Teammates Tempestt Wilson and Polly Harrington are close behind at 12.2 and 11.0 points per game.
The team's rebounding leader is Margaret McCloud. She ranks fourth overall in the Summit League pulling down 7.1 rebounds per contest.
ALL-TIME SERIES
South Dakota leads the all-time series over IPFW 2-1. The two teams met for the first time a year ago as IPFW won the first match up 65-63 at the Gates Sports Center. The Coyotes returned the favor as they dropped the Mastodons 70-56 in the DakotaDome.
LAST TIME OUT
The IPFW women's basketball team is now .500 in Summit League action (6-6) as the Mastodons defeated Kansas City on Thursday night by the final score of 49-42.
IPFW shot 25 percent from the floor and ended the game with 12 field goals, but stellar defense and all-around hustle led to the win as the Mastodons move up the Summit League standings.
Haley Seibert and Erin Murphy each scored 15 points to lead IPFW. Seibert hit three of IPFW's four 3-point field goals including a dagger from the corner with 2:51 to play. Murphy did her damage from the free throw line as she knocked down 7-of-8 from the stripe.
Amanda Hyde was also a key player on Thursday night as the junior poured in 13 points to go with six rebounds and two assists. Rachel Mauk rounded out the scoring total with six points. Mauk also grabbed six boards.
IPFW scored 11 points off Kansas City turnovers and didn't allow a single second chance point. The Kangaroo bench outscored IPFW 14-0, but IPFW held on to win the game by hitting 21 of their 24 free throw attempts.
1,000 POINT WATCH
Amanda Hyde now has 902 career points as a Mastodon. She has put together a great season by doubling her points per game average from a year ago (18.9 2012-13 / 9.5 2011-12). Hyde is also leading the Summit League in scoring which has not been done by an IPFW player since the 2007-08 season when Johnna Lewis-Carlisle averaged 19.5 ppg.
THREE POINT STREAK
The IPFW Mastodons have made a 3-point field goal in 429 straight contests, a stretch that ranks as the fourth longest active streak in NCAA Division I. Iowa State's streak is at the top of the list by making a 3-point field goal in 571 consecutive games. Sam Houston State and Connecticut rank ahead of IPFW with 523 and 497 respectively.
HYDE SCORES 43 AT SOUTHERN ILLINOIS
Amanda Hyde scored a career-high 43 points in a 78-65 win over Southern Illinois. The 43 points placed her in a tie for second all-time in Summit League history, and also tied the IPFW school record for most points in a game.
43 points puts Hyde in a tie for the second highest single-game total in NCAA Division I this season. Shareta Brown of Detroit scored 43 against Lourdes on Dec. 10.
Other student-athletes to score more than 40 include Amy Patton of Northern Arizona who scored 41 points against Bradley on Nov. 24 and Kelia Shelton of Louisiana Tech who recorded 45 points against UTSA on Feb. 7.
IPFW AT SOUTH DAKOTA GAME RECAP – JAN. 17
IPFW was limited to just 17 points in the second half which led to an 82-51 loss at South Dakota. Four key factors led to the outcome as the Coyotes won the points in the paint battle 40-12, second chance points 22-7, bench points 29-2, and also outrebounded IPFW 43-22.
The Mastodons only trailed by three points at halftime (37-34), but the second half belonged to South Dakota as they outscored IPFW 45-17 in the final 20 minutes of play.
Amanda Hyde scored a game-high 20 points to lead IPFW. Hyde shot 5-for-11 from the floor and was a perfect 8-for-8 from the charity stripe. Stefanie Mauk added 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds and Haley Seibert poured in nine points, all coming in the first half.
The Coyotes had four players reach double figures as Nicole Seekamp, Polly Harrington, Tempestt Wilson, and Margaret McCloud all impacted the game for South Dakota. Seekamp and Wilson hurt IPFW from the perimeter scoring 18 and 15 points respectively while the duo of Harrington and McCloud beat up IPFW in the paint to the tune of 16 points and 14.
HEAD COACH CHRIS PAUL
Chris Paul became the all-time program wins leader at IPFW on January 22, 2011. Paul has 91 wins as the head coach for the Mastodons, 52 of which have come against Summit League opponents. Paul now ranks eighth for overall victories by a Summit League head coach and is eighth all-time for most Summit League victories by a head coach.
FREEBIES
Amanda Hyde is shooting 85.4 percent from the free throw line this season making her the second best free throw shooter in the Summit League. The junior has made 117 of her 137 attempts on the season. She currently holds the 30th best percentage in the NCAA.
IPFW is currently ranked eighth in the nation with a team free throw percentage of 78.7 Notre Dame leads the NCAA by knocking down 80.1 percent of their free throw attempts.

IPFW will only play one game next week as the Mastodons travel North to face the Oakland Golden Grizzlies on Saturday, Feb. 23. Tip-off at the O'rena is slated for 2 p.m.
