Strong Final Round Lifts Mastodons to 11th

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Behind a final-round 74 from freshman Drake Devereux, the IPFW Mastodons climbed to 11th at the Don Benbow Invitational hosted by Butler University.
IPFW's 307 on the second round pushed the Mastodons up two spots to 11th in the field with a two-round score of 626. Florida Atlantic was the tournament champion with a 582, while Bethune-Cookman (586), Northern Kentucky (591), Evansville (592), and Cleveland State (595) rounded out the top five teams in the field.
Devereux finished in a tie for 37th in the field with a final-round score of 74, giving him a 154 for the weekend. Bruno Carvalho closed his weekend with a final-round 79, closing the tournament with 156, tied for 43rd overall.
Jacob Groninger finished a stroke better on the second round than the first with a final-round 78, giving him a 157, tying for 57th. Drew Imel shot a weekend total of 159 (83-76), playing the senior 54th, and closing out the team scoring in the tournament. Dan Wert and Oliver Gibson each ended the tournament tied for 81st with 171's, Wert carding a 79 on the final day and Gibson 85. Logan Barker took 84th with a 177 (95-82).
The Mastodons return to action tomorrow in the Butler Tournament hosted at Windsor Parke Golf Club.
