Mastodon Golfers Race to Fifth at Bulldog Florida Invitational

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - In their third day of a four-round Florida trip, the IPFW Mastodons sit in fifth place in the first of two rounds at the Bulldog Florida Invitational hosted by Butler University.
The Mastodons carded an opening-round score of 330, while Alabama State leads the field through 18 holes with a 308. Host Butler sits second with a 318, while Florida A&M (327) and Wooster (329) finish just ahead of IPFW in the top five. Eastern Illinois (345), Edward Waters College (349), and Chicago State (357) round out the eight teams in the field.
Leading the way for the Mastodon scoring group is Bruno Carvalho, who shot a 78, placing in a tie for ninth, while Jacob Groninger is tied for 11th in the field with a 79.
Senior Drew Imel is third on the IPFW squad with an 83, while Drake Devereux rounded out the scoring four by placing 39th with a 90. Oliver Gibson closed out the Mastodon top five with a 93, placing 42nd.
As an individual, Dan Wert carded the lowest score by an IPFW golfer, with a 76 (34-41), tying him for fifth place in the field. Logan Barker, also an individual, shot an 86 for a tie of 32nd place.
The Mastodons return to action for the fourth and final round of their Florida trip at the second day of the Bulldog Florida Invitational.
