
McHugh Smashes Record at Miami Invite

OXFORD, Ohio - IPFW senior Theresa McHugh breaks her own school record in the javelin throw by nearly six feet, climbing into the top-50 in the country, as the Mastodons competed at the Miami Invitational.
McHugh's toss of 45.82 meters (150-feet, 4-inches), nearly six feet further than her own previous school record (142-10), as she took second in the competition, behind Victoria Paterra, who took 20th at least season's NCAA Championships. McHugh's throw ranks 31st in the country of results heading into the weekend, while ranking 15th in the East Region. Alyssa Kopp set a new personal-best in the event with a toss of 94-10, with Lizzy Frazze placing 17th with a toss of 76-8.
Rachel Dincoff' picked up the team's first-place finish in the event, winning the shot put with a toss of 14.30 meters (46-11), the second-longest throw in school history, while Kayla Zink took 10th with a toss of 12.66 meters (41-6.5), the fourth-best throw in the history of the program. Emily Radke placed 17th with a toss of 38-4.75 (11.70 meters), while Alyssa Kopp (18th / 37-8.75), Lizzy Frazze (19th / 37-5.75), and Laura Moynahan (22nd / 34-9) rounded out the six Mastodons in the field.
Sprinter Kaylin Taylor had a strong afternoon, sprinting to a career-best time of 12.61 in the 100-meter dash, the second-fastest time in school history - placing 14th - while also sprinting to a time of 1:05.88 in the 400-meter hurdles, the fourth fastest time in school history, and sixth-fastest in the field.
In the discus, Zink placed third overall with a toss of 145-2, with Dincoff setting a new collegiate personal-best with a toss of 140-2, as Radke took 18th with a toss of 122-1, becoming the fifth-best discus thrower in school history in the process.
Kayla Boyes set a pair of personal-bests on the day, with a time of 11:43.46 in the 3,000-meter steeple chase, placing seventh, while her time of 4:55.08 in the 1,500-meter run also set a new career-best. Kaitlyn Simmons placed 39th in the 1,500 in a time of 5:07.09, while Julie Jeszenszky took 44th in a time of 5:18.57.
Andrea Bell led four Mastodons in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:49.49, placing 22nd, while Rachel Zachar placed 23rd in a time of 18:53.33. Jordan Tomecek (26th) ran to a time of 19:13.89, while Amaya Ayers (28th) closed out the Mastodon quartet in a time of 19:19.49.
Emily Craig set a personal-best in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.33, while placing 29th in the 200-meter dash in a time of 28.51. Alexa Brown paced three 'Dons in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:33.92, placing 35th, while Nicole Dailey (43rd / 2:43.97) and Alexis Minier (44th / 2:46.65) rounded out the runners in the field.
The Mastodons return to action next weekend at the Ball State Invitational in Muncie, Ind., on April 12.
