Shorthanded 'Dons Take 12th at Donec Invitational

COMBINED RESULTS
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Without their team captain, the IPFW Mastodons closed the 2013 Derek Donec Invitational with a 12th place finish, as the team was led by sophomore Oliver Gibson, who shot a team-best 74 on the final round.
IPFW's 307 in the third round gave the team a three-round total of 921, three strokes out of 11th place and six out of 10th. Belmont was the team champion in the event with a team score of 866, with host SIU Edwardsville carding an 873 for second place. Lipscomb (883), Bradley (888), South Dakota (889), Omaha (892), Missouri State (893), Drake (893), Southern Illinois (900), Eastern Illinois (915), and Western Illinois (918) rounded out the remaining teams in the field.
Dan Wert closed the tournament with a final-round 78, leading the team with a tournament total of 229, placing in a tie for 39th. Gibson's 74 gave him a three-round 233 for a tie of 56th place, with Drake Devereaux finishing just behind with a 234 (tie for 58th). Freshman Devin Jenkins closed the round with a 77, and a tournament score of 237, placing in a tie for 63rd. Playing as an individual, Daniel Shepard shot a final-round 75, a 231 for the tournament, placing in a tie for 52nd.
The Mastodons return to action on September 21 and 22 at the Indiana Intercollegiates hosted by Indiana University at the Wolf Run Country Club.
