Defensive 'Dons Fall in Battle Against Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Sam Pavlika made nine saves, as the IPFW Mastodons fell 2-0 to the Purdue Boilermakers in a non-conference match on Friday evening.
Pavlika's save total is one off of her career-high, as she climbed into fifth in school history with 116 career saves.
Behind six saves by the IPFW goalkeeper, the teams ended the first half knotted in a scoreless tie, despite the Mastodons being out-shot 12-0 in the period.
Purdue (4-2-1) put up four shots to start the second half, before finally reaching the back of the net when Holly Gregory passed a ball to the top of the goal box, to the foot of Hadley Stuart, who beat the keeper to the left post for the game-winning goal.
IPFW (2-5-0) put together two strong chances later in the second half, both off of set-piece opportunities, but each coming up empty. Stuart sent a shot off of the post, and then rebounded by Alex Hairston for the insuance goal with 29 seconds remaining on the game clock.
Sydney Hoareau had a pair of shots for IPFW, while Erin Gill and Gaby Romo each had one. For the match, the Mastodons were out-shot 24-4, while the Boilermakers held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The Mastodons take the rest of the weekend off, before traveling to Rochester, Mich. for a second consecutive one-match weekend, as the team faces off against the Oakland Grizzlies.
