FORT WAYNE, Ind. - A pair of quick goals to start the match for Butler would be all the Bulldogs would need, as the IPFW Mastodons fell 2-0 to their foe from Indianapolis in a Labor Day evening meeting.

The Mastodons (2-2) out-shot Butler (4-1) 12-9 in the game, and had the exact number of shots on goal; however, the Bulldogs were efficient with their four shots on frame in the contest.

Delia Soucie had a team-high four shots for IPFW - two on goal, while Gaby Romo added three shot attempts.

Butler wasted little time in pushing ahead to a 1-0 lead 11 minutes into the game - on the Bulldogs' first shot of the contest - when Elise Kotsakis beat IPFW goalkeeper Sam Pavlika to the right post.

Less than seven minutes later the Bulldogs added an insurance goal on just their second shot of the contest, this one slipping just past Pavlika and into the back of the net to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.

IPFW would not back down; however, and continued to pressure, but neither team could find the back of the net over the final 30 minutes of the opening period.

The Mastodons came out firing out of the gate at halftime, as the Bulldogs were on their heels for the majority of the period. Things seemed to look up for IPFW as Butler had to play a man down over the final 25 minutes, and the IPFW offense hit its stride; however, could not sneak a shot into the goal.

Romo hit the side post and the ball was cleared by a Butler defender before it could cross the goal line, keeping the 'Dons off the scoreboard, and later had a strong shot to the far post that was saved by the Butler goalkeeper keeping the zero on the board.

The Mastodons return to action on Friday, September 6, when the squad hosts the Miami RedHawks in the second match of a men's / women's doubleheader at the Hefner Soccer Complex.
