The Mastodons (3-1) trailed for the majority of the second set, and were down 23-21 before out-scoring the Cardinals 6-2 the rest of the way to claim the 27-25 second-set win.
The third set was back-and-forth throughout; however, the Mastodons once again pulled away late, including using back-to-back points on Ball State attack errors to win the third set 28-26.
The Mastodons led early in the fourth set, until the Cardinals ran off an 11-5 run to turn an 119 IPFW lead into a 20-15 Ball State advantage.
In the deciding fifth set the hosts did not trail at any point, jumping out to a 3-0 lead, and closing the door with a 4-2 run to win the fifth set 15-9.
Alex Fuelling had a match-high 24 kills, while Mindy Marx had 15 and Kelly Hopkins 11. Kylee Baker had 18 digs, while Fuelling added 15 for the double-double.
