Early Second Half Goal Drops Mastodons in Omaha
10/24/2014 10:04:00 PM | Women's Soccer
OMAHA, Neb. - An Omaha goal less than a minute into the second half helped the host Mavericks slip past the IPFW Mastodons by a 1-0 score on Friday evening.
Lindsey Swope took a team-high three shots in the game, while Kelsie Carlson took two shots, both on goal. Junior goalkeeper Sam Pavlika picked up three saves, as five of the Mavericks' 12 shots were on goal for the match.
The loss drops IPFW to 2-12-2 on the season, as the team fell by a 1-0 score for the second consecutive match.
The teams battled through the first 45 minutes of action, neither squad finding the back of the net, with Pavlika picking up three saves at the break.
Just 43 seconds into the second half, Omaha's Chelsi Rohloff took a shot that was stopped by Pavlika; however, the save kicked to Anna Sibson, who chipped the ball over a pair of Mastodon defenders and into the back of the net.
Trailing by one, the Mastodons added pressure, specifically over the final 10 minutes where IPFW took a pair of shots added to a pair of corner kicks.
IPFW returns to action on Sunday, October 26 when the team travels to Denver, Colorado, in the next-to-last match of the 2012 season.
