Pavlika Sets Career Saves Mark as IPFW Shut Out in Denver
10/26/2014 4:37:00 PM | Women's Soccer
DENVER - IPFW junior goalkeeper Sam Pavlika passed former Scotland National Team Member Shannon Lynn for the top spot in career saves in program history with 295; however the Mastodons fell in a 3-0 battle with the Denver Pioneers. Denver has won four consecutive matches via shutout and sits in the top spot in the Summit League standings.
Pavlika had five saves in 63-plus minutes of action, while backup goalkeeper Kiley Dunning had four saves in just over 26 minutes between the pipes. Kallianne Mogler took two shots for the Mastodons, while Mayson Whitman and Brooke Bishir each had one attempt.
Pavlika, who also holds the school career records in goals against average (1.70), wins (18), and shutouts, adds saves to her total as well. Her 295 currently stands tied for ninth in Summit League history with Oral Roberts' Amanda Wheeler, who played from 2007-11.
Denver struck first just over ten minutes into the match when Makenzie Bothner sent a pass to Jocelyn Loomis. Loomis then found Taylor Ivins who finished the ball from near the endline.
In the 24th minute, Loomis scored one of her own off of a double assist from Francesca Garzelloni and Shelby Wesley to take the margin to 2-0 in favor of the Pioneers, which stood through halftime.
Five minutes into the second half the Pioneers gave the match its final margin when Garzelloni took a pass from Bothner, and finished from six yards out.
Denver out-shot the Mastodons 21-to-4 in the match, with a dozen of the Pioneers' shots coming on goal.
The loss drops IPFW to 2-13-2 on the season; however, nine of the team's losses have come by two goals or fewer.
The Mastodons close out their 2014 season on Sunday, November 2 when the team faces off against the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles in a 2 p.m. kickoff in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
