DENVER - The IPFW women's volleyball team dropped its final regular season match to Denver, 3-0 (25-23, 30-28, 25-17). The Mastodons head into the Summit League Tournament with a 13-19 overall record and finish the league schedule at 7-9.
Emily Spencer led the 'Dons with her fourth straight double-double, 17 kills and 10 digs. She also improved her program record to 53 consecutive matches in double-digit kills. Sarah Heckman and Somer Johnson both finished the afternoon in double figures with 14 and 11 kills, respectively.
Madison Spence led the Mastodons with 40 assists in the match. Heckman and Natasha Medic led the way with three blocks each.
IPFW held the lead midway through the opening set at 16-14, but a three-point swing by the Pioneers gave them the lead for good. It was a similar fate for the Mastodons in the second set. Leading 28-27, Denver scored the next three points to take a 2-0 lead at intermission. In the final set, the 'Dons fell behind early 7-3 and were unable to recover down the stretch.
IPFW will face South Dakota in the opening round of the Summit League Tournament on November 21 at 7 p.m.
