Spencer Ties Single-Match Kill Record In Sweep

TULSA, Okla. - On the back of Emily Spencer's three-set match record 24 kills, the IPFW women's volleyball team swept Oral Roberts on the road 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-23).
As a team, the Mastodons matched a season-high hitting percentage of .363.
Spencer's 24 kills tied an IPFW three-set match record set by Fabiana Souza on Sept. 17, 2004 against Middle Tennessee State. For the match she hit .468, made eight digs, and added two aces. Spencer also extended her school record to 48 consecutive matches in double-digit kills.
Somer Johnson added in 11 kills on the afternoon for the 'Dons. Madison Spence led the team with 34 assists. Kendall Wienkes had a match-high 11 digs while Mallory Slyder made seven. Anna Wrede led all players with four blocks as Johnson added three of her own.
Oral Roberts scored the opening point of the match, but the Mastodons answered with back-to-back points and never trailed again. IPFW began the second set on a 4-0 advantage, but the Golden Eagles chipped away before take their own lead at 14-13. The 'Dons answered with five consecutive points to regain the lead and win the set.
Trailing 15-13 in the third set, the Mastodons once again answered with a 7-2 run to put the match away.
Next up for IPFW is the final home series of the season, which kicks off against South Dakota State on November 7 at 7 p.m.
