Women's Basketball Drops First Game Of Road Trip

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The IPFW women's basketball team dropped the first of a two-game road trip through South Carolina, falling to USC Upstate 85-73. The Mastodons are now 2-2 on the season.
Haley Seibert led all players with 23 points, including going 9-for-9 at the free throw line. She also tied a career-high with eight rebounds. Keanna Gary finished the afternoon with a season-high 11 points and seven rebounds.
KeShyra McCarver came off the bench to score nine points, while Rachel Rinehart, Courtney Ogle, and Brett Green all added eight. Rinehart finished with a game-high nine rebounds and dished out three assists while Ogle blocked two shots.
As a team, the 'Dons made their first 19 free throws and finished the game shooting 28-of-32 from the charity stripe. IPFW connected on 20-of-58 from the floor and 5-of-22 on three-point attempts.
Upstate scored the first six points of the game en route to leading by 11 with 6:07 to play. IPFW fought back with a 16-3 run, including 10 unanswered point, to take its only lead of the game 30-28 with 1:52 to go in the half. The Spartans scored the next six points as they led 35-34 at halftime.
After Upstate scored the first four points of the second half, it pushed its lead to nine points, 53-44, with 13:19 left in the game. The 'Dons against rumbled their way back, and with 7:39 to play, trailing by a point at 58-57. A 12-2 Spartan run from there put the lead out of reach for the Mastodons down the stretch.
IPFW closes out its road trip at Coastal Carolina on November 25 at 7 p.m.
