12/22/2014 10:00:00 PM | Women's Basketball
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Freshman Allyson Bunch knocked down six 3-pointers and scored a career-high 18 points, but it was not enough as the IPFW women's basketball team fell to Oakland 92-84. The Mastodons are now 4-7 on the season.
Bunch's six baskets from downtown are tied for second most by an IPFW freshman, and were the most since Jordan Zuppe made seven at UMKC on March 3, 2008. Kamilah Carter and Haley Seibert each finished the night with 15 points, as Seibert led the 'Dons with five assists. Rachel Rinehart also finished in double-digits with 12 points. Hillary Moore made a career-high 11 rebounds for IPFW.
The Mastodons took an early lead on the back of a 6-0 run, six minutes into the game. Oakland answered back with a 7-0 run to take its first lead of the game as the two sides exchanged six leads in the first half. The Mastodons trailed by nine with 3:01 left in the half, but the 'Dons rattled off 14 straight points over the next 2:20, including three from long range by Bunch. Oakland scored the final five points of the half as the two teams were tied 37-37 at the break.
Neither team pulled away early in the second half, as the largest lead for either team was four points. With the score tied late in the second half, Oakland made a 15-4 run over a 2:19 span to take an 81-70 lead with 4:21 to play. IPFW pulled to within four at 80-76 on a three-pointer by Carter at the 2:57 mark but the 'Dons were unable to cut into the lead in the final minutes.
For the game, the Mastodons shot 32-of-67 from the floor, 8-of-28 from long distance, and 12-of-14 at the free throw line.
IPFW returns to the court on December 28 for a 2 p.m. game against Milwaukee.
