Jackrabbits Topple Mastodons in Brookings

BROOKINGS, S.D. - The IPFW Mastodons dropped into a tie for first place in the Summit League on Thursday evening, falling to the South Dakota State Jackrabbits by a 79-51 final score, setting up a Saturday afternoon battle for first place in the league standings with North Dakota State.
Steve Forbes scored a team-best 10 points in the game, while Luis Jacobo and Michael Kibiloski each scored nine. Herbert Graham and Mo Evans each pulled down a team-high five rebounds, with three players - Jacobo, Forbes, and Joe Edwards - each dished out two assists.
There were two ties and four lead changes over the first six minutes of the game, with IPFW (18-7, 6-2 Summit League) leading by as many as three at 12-9 after a Jacobo triple. Seven straight Jackrabbit points put the hosts ahead for good at 16-12, with the Mastodons twice climbing to within a single point, the final time on a McCray lay-up with 11:41 in the game.
SDSU (13-10, 5-3 Summit) scored the next eight, and kept its foot on the gas pedal, pushing to a 13-point lead at the break.
After Forbes opened the second half with a lay-in, the Jackrabbits ran off a 10-1 run to lead by 22, and the hosts never looked back in the 28-point Jackrabbit win.
IPFW hit just 19-of-54 (35.2%) from the field, and 6-of-24 (25%) from long range. South Dakota State hit hit half of its 62 shots from the field, and 10-of-19 from long range (52.6%), after opening the game hitting 10-of-14 (71.4%) from beyond the arc through the first 34 minutes of the contest.
Jordan Dykstra scored a game-high 18 points for the Jackrabbits, while Cody Larson scored 17 and Chad White 15.
The Mastodons return to action on Saturday, February 8, when the squad travels north to Fargo, N.D. to take on the Bison of North Dakota State in a 5 p.m. EST tip-off at the Bison Sports Arena in a game broadcast nationally on Fox College Sports.
