Groninger Tied For Second After First Round To Lead 'Dons

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - After the first round of the Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate, IPFW men's golfer Jacob Groninger is tied for second, shooting a 1-under-par 69 to lead the Mastodons who sit in 24th place with a team score of 312.
Hosted by The College of William & Mary at the par-70 River Course at the Kingsmill Resort, the course is being played at 6,765 yards. Eastern Michigan and Texas Tech are tied for the team lead with rounds of 288 to begin the three-day tournament. Carter Jenkins of UNC Greensboro leads the 141-player field with a round of 2-under-par 68.
Groninger sits a shot off the lead, carding a tournament best five birdies in the round. He was one of only six players to birdie the par-4 No. 9, while also making birdies on Nos. 4, 7, 14 and 15. Carter Dornseif recorded birdies on Nos. 4, 5, and 7, to tie for 36th, shooting a 74 for the round. In a tie for 125th is Daniel Shepard, who carded an 83 for the afternoon. Sitting three strokes back tied for 137th are Drake Devereux and Devin Jenkins, who recording rounds of a 86, respectively.
