Frank Gaines Closes Strong NBA Summer League Schedule

LAS VEGAS - IPFW graduate Frank Gaines ended his 2014 NBA Summer League schedule with the Miami Heat on July 18 with eight points and two assists in 12 minutes of action against the Cleveland Cavaliers, closing a strong 10-game schedule in which he also appeared for the Indiana Pacers.
During the first five games of the Summer League schedule - played in Orlando, Florida - in which he played for the Indiana Pacers, he started every game and averaged 13.3 points, playing over 22 minutes per contest. His stint with the Pacers was highlighted by a,17-point effort against the Oklahoma City Thunder. He also reached double figure scoring on July 11 against Boston with 14 points, and on July 7 against the Celtics with 10 tallies.,
After his Orlando schedule closed on July 11, he suited up for the Miami Heat a day later in Las Vegas. With the Heat, he averaged five points per game, including a 13-point outburst against the Los Angeles Clippers on July 16, before adding eight points against the Cavaliers in the Summer League finale.
Gaines had a prolific opening year to his professional career, as he played the season with the Maine Red Claws of the NBA D-League, and was named the league's Most Improved Player, Honorable Mention All-D-League, and All-Rookie First Team. In his opening professional season he averaged 22.4 points per game, fourth-highest in the league, while adding 3.7 rebounds, 1.5 assists in 35.4 minutes per game. Following his season with the Red Claws, he joined the Gigantes De Guayana basketball team in Venezuela, where he played in five games and averaged 15.0 points per game to go with 2.2 rebounds per game in 20.6 minutes per game.
He ended his IPFW career with a school-record 1,841 points, including back-to-back years of 635 and 632 points. He shot 44.1 percent from the field over his career, and was 500-of-672 (74.4%) from the charity stripe while pulling down 561 rebounds and dishing out 114 assists.
He recently signed to play with Pasta Reggia JuveCaserta of the Italy Series A.,
