Volleyball Sweeps Duquesne To Snap Six-Match Skid

TOLEDO, Ohio - The senior duo of Kendall Wienkes and Emily Spencer each had a double-double to help the IPFW women's volleyball team snap a six-match losing streak, sweeping Duquesne 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 26-24).
Spencer ended the night with 21 kills and 14 digs, both of which were a match-high. She has now posted three consecutive matches of 20 or more kills for the first time in her career. Wienkes completed the match with 14 kills and 11 digs and led the 'Dons with a match-high three aces.
Sarah Heckman hit a match-high .583 with eight kills while Somer Johnson also hit .500 for the match with six kills. Este Stoffel made a season-high 13 digs for the Mastodons as Madison Spence dished out 45 assists.
As a team, IPFW finished the match with a season-best .339 hitting percentage.
After exchanging early leads, the Mastodons used a 10-5 run to take control of the opening set. Trailing 11-10 in the second set, IPFW rallied with a 7-2 run as the 'Dons never trailed again.
The third set again saw several lead changes as neither team ever led by more than three points. The Mastodons trailed Duquesne 24-21, but the 'Dons staved off three set points by the Dukes, closing out the set with five consecutive points to take the match.
IPFW wraps up the Rocket Invitational against 17th ranked Minnesota on September 20 at 1 p.m.
