Women's Volleyball Makes History in Sweep of SDSU

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - For the first time in program history, three IPFW women's volleyball players earned an assist-dig double-double, as Olivia Hahn, Madison Jaqua, and Clair Marshall led the Mastodons in a sweep of South Dakota State 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-20).
Hahn earned her first career double-double with a match nigh 19 digs and a career-high 11 assists. Jaqua produced her seventh career double-double leading the 'Dons with 18 assists to go along with 10 digs. Marshall ended her night with 15 assists and 10 digs for her second career double-double. Nicole Rightnowar also went for double-digit digs with 13.
Somer Johnson led the offensive attack with a match-high 22 kills and seven digs. Monica Hall, Natalie Seiler, and Lauren Hoffman each finished with six kills in the match.
The Mastodons ran away with the opening set, as they never trailed SDSU. IPFW twice led by as many as 11 points before closing out the set.
The second frame was one of the tightest battles the 'Dons have been a part of this season as the two sides exchanged 10 leads and tied the score 17 times. Early on, neither team was able to gain more than a two-point lead. With the score tied 21-21, the Mastodons scored the final four points. Seiler began the run with a kill, Rightnowar followed with back-to-back kills before IPFW closed out the set on a South Dakota State error.
The 'Dons fell behind early in the third set as the Jackrabbits jumped out to a 6-1 lead. IPFW began to chip away at the SDSU lead, with a four-point and a pair of three-point runs. Down 11-8, an 11-2 run propelled the Mastodons to the sweep.
IPFW begins a three-match road swing at Omaha on October 16 for an 8 p.m. contest.
