Good's Goal Keeps Mastodon Hot Streak Alive
10/2/2015 6:22:00 PM | Women's Soccer
MACOMB, Ill. - A Rachel Good goal 64 minutes into the match provided all of the scoring necessary, as the IPFW women's soccer team improved to 3-0-1 over its last four matches with a 1-0 win over the Western Illinois Leathernecks on Friday afternoon.
Good's goal came on a rebound off of a Kallianne Mogler free kick, and Good burried the ball into the back of the net for her second goal of the season.
The shutout was junior Kiley Dunning's third clean slate of the year, as she stopped 10 shots in the match, the third time this season she has recorded double-digits in the save column, dropping her season goals against average to 1.86 in the process.
Both teams played to a defensive first half, with neither team finding the back of the net despite the host Leathernecks squeezing off a dozen first-half shot attempts - five stopped by Dunning.
Good's goal came less than 20 minutes into the second half, and provided all of the scoring in the contest. Dunning put up an identical five saves in the second half, with Western Illinois out-shooting IPFW 14-2 in the second half and 26-2 for the match.
In all, Good and Erin Gill took the team's two shots on goal, while Western Illinois' Victoria Kappel had one save in the losing effort.
The win improves IPFW to 3-8-1 on the season, and 1-0-0 in Summit League play.
The squad returns to action on Sunday, October 4, when the team travels to Indianapolis to take on the IUPUI Jaguars in a 1 p.m. kickoff.
