Groninger Leads The Field After First Day of CSU Invite

AURORA, Ohio - As day one of the Cleveland State Invitational came to a close, IPFW men's golfer Jacob Groninger stood alone atop the leaderboard with a 4-under-par 140 to hold a one-stroke lead heading into the final 18 holes. As a team, the Mastodons sit in 10th place with a 36-hole score of 603.
The tournament is being hosted by Cleveland State at the par-72, 7,138-yard Barrington Golf Club. Kent State holds a six shot lead in the team standings with a score of 571 through 36 holes.
IPFW sits three strokes back of ninth place Northern Kentucky. Groninger is one shot up on three other golfers who are tied for second, to lead the 78-player field. In his first round of the day, Groninger carded a 4-under-par 68, which included five birdies. In the afternoon, Groninger recorded three birdies, each of which came on a par-3 hole, to finish with an even-par 72.
Zach Schroeder ended his day tied for 35th carding rounds of 76-74-150. Tyler Meyer and Josh Keating finished tied in 67th place, shooting rounds of 77-82-159 and 79-80-159, respectively. Daniel Shepard rounded out the team scoring on the day, shooting 85-77-162 and tying for 72nd.
Playing as an individual, Devin Jenkins carded rounds of 81-75-156 to end day one tied for 60th.
The final round of the Cleveland State Invitational will be a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
