Mastodons and Jackrabbits Make History in Sioux Falls
11/1/2015 4:33:00 PM | Women's Volleyball
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The IPFW women's volleyball team was a part of history Sunday afternoon when they took on South Dakota State in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The city of Sioux Falls hosted its first Division I volleyball match ever as the Mastodons fell to the Jackrabbits 3-0 (25-19, 25-10, 25-23) inside the Sanford Pentagon.
Nicole Rightnowar and Lauren Hoffman led the offensive attack for the 'Dons with eight kills, respectively. Madison Jaqua dished out 24 assists for IPFW.
Defensively, Olivia Hahn paced the Mastodons with 14 digs while Somer Johnson finished with 10 and Este Stoffel added nine. Jayna Colanese served up a match-high two aces.
The 'Dons jumped out to an early 7-4 lead in the first set. The two sides traded points on seven consecutive possessions before a 6-1 Jackrabbit run gave them the set. With IPFW trailing 8-6 in the second set, nine straight points by SDSU was too much to overcome.
The final set again saw the Mastodons score the first three points to take a 7-4 lead. The 'Dons held the lead late into the frame before the Jacks scored four of the final five points to win the match.
IPFW returns to action on November 6 when it travels to North Dakota State for an 8 p.m. ET match.
