Men's Golf Ninth After First Round of Summit League Championship

LOMPOC, Calif. - After the first round of the Summit League Championship, the IPFW men's golf team sits in ninth place with a score of 323. The Mastodons sit seven strokes behind eighth place Omaha.

Hosted at the par-72 La Purisima Golf Course, the course was played at 7,055 yards for the round. Oral Roberts holds a six-stroke lead over the field with a 299 for the round. Parker Dolezal also of Oral Roberts sits atop the individual leaderboard, carding a 2-under-par 70 on the day.

IPFW was led by Clark Tiller and Daniel Shepard on the afternoon, shooting rounds of 6-over-par 78 to finish tied for 13th. Tiller led the team with three birdies on the round, Nos. 4, 8, and 14, all of which were par-4 holes. Tiller's three birdies tied for third best on the day among the 45-player field while being one of only two players to birdie No. 14. Shepard also carded a birdie on No. 3, a par-3 130-yard hole.

In a tie for 37th is David Watterson, carding a first-round 82. Watterson birdied a pair of holes, the par-4 No. 10 and par-3 No. 13. Rounding out the scorecard for the 'Dons, Devin Jenkins and Drake Devereux finished one stroke apart, with rounds of 85 and 86, respectively. Jenkins currently sits in 42nd place while Devereux is tied for 43rd overall.

The second round of the Summit League Championship will have IPFW teeing off No. 1 at 11 a.m. ET.
