Mastodons Win Early Morning Match Over Skyhawks

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - A double-double by Somer Johnson, 18 kills by Nicole Rightnowar, and a career-high 29 digs from Olivia Hahn got the IPFW women's volleyball squad back to their winning ways, defeating UT Martin 3-1 (25-22, 25-21, 23-25, 25-18).
Johnson finished the morning with a match-high 19 kills, 10 digs, and three blocks. Rightnowar's season-high 18 kills also came with a season-best .395 hitting percentage. Sarah Heckman also went for double-digit kills with 10 and hit a team-high .450.
Madison Jaqua powered the offense, tying a match-high with 48 assists and adding eight digs. Hahn finished with a match-high 29 digs as Elizabeth Britner made a season-high nine. Monica Hall led all players with four blocks while Clair Marshall served up a match-high three aces.
IPFW opened the match by scoring the first two points before trailing 10-9. The Mastodons fought back with a 6-2 run as they never trailed again. The 'Dons trailed early in the second set 7-6, before a four-point run gave them the lead for good.
The Mastodons bounced back in the third set after again trailing early to take a 10-7 lead. With the score tied 22-22, the Skyhawks scored three of the next four points to take the set. Despite trailing in the fourth set 10-8, the 'Dons powered past UTM scoring 12 of the next 14 points to take the set and the match.
IPFW closes out the Holiday Inn Classic tonight, September 12, at 7 p.m. The match will be broadcast on ESPN3.
