Men's Golf Closes Out First Tournament in Tenth Place

NORMAL, Ill. - The IPFW men's golf team capped off its first tournament of the season with a final round 311 to finish in 10th place with a 54-hole score of 904 at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate.

Played at the par-71, 6,915 yard Weibring Golf Club, host Illinois State took home the team title by 16 strokes with a two-day score of 862 over second place Central Arkansas. Trent Wallace also of Illinois State earned medalist honors with a 54-hole score of 211.

Jacob Groninger led the Mastodons with a third place finish, three strokes out of second, with a total score of 217. Zach Schroeder ended his first collegiate tournament in a tie for 15th with a score of 222. Dan Wert closed out the tournament tied for 68th carding a 234. Finishing one stroke back in a tie for 74th place was Drake Devereux. Josh Keating shot a team-low 77 to end his first tournament as a Mastodon with a 238, tying for 85th.

IPFW returns to the course October 5-6 for the Cleveland State Invitational.
