Women's Soccer Plays to Scoreless Draw Against Titans
9/23/2015 5:55:00 PM | Women's Soccer
DETROIT - The IPFW women's soccer team put together a defensive effort that saw a second straight shutout, as the Mastodons played to a double-overtime scoreless draw with the Detroit Titans on Wednesday afternoon.
The back-to-back shutouts from sophomore goalkeeper Kiley Dunning, along with a scoreless final 20-plus minutes against Butler on September 13, gives Dunning a streak of 220 minutes and 15 seconds of scoreless soccer, the fifth-longest shutout streak in program history.,
The tie is the first this season, and the first since IPFW and Western Illinois also played to a scoreless draw on October 17, 2014.
Rachel Good led the Mastodons with five shot attempts - two on goal - while Erin Gill had two shots, and one each from Kallianne Mogler, Andie Lazzerini, Paityn Fleming, and Deanna Hecht. Dunning picked up nine saves, giving her 66 for the season and 76 for her career, the eighth-highest career total in program history.
Good started strong for IPFW, putting a shot up just over a minute into the match, with a second being saved seven minutes later; however, the Mastodons would go another 28 minutes before their next shot in the defensive battle.,
Through halftime each team had four shot attempts, while the Titans held a 6-2 lead on shots in the second half. Despite taking more shots in the second half, none could find the back of the net. Each team took a shot in the first overtime, while the Mastodons put the pressure on late in the match, taking four shots in the final 10-minute period to Detroit's two; however, none could find the back of the net in the scoreless draw.
The Mastodons return to action for their final non-Summit League contest, when the team takes on the Robert Morris Colonials in a 3 p.m. kickoff in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
