Gary Records Fourth Straight Game With 10 Rebounds in Loss
1/13/2016 10:57:00 PM | Women's Basketball
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Keanna Gary finished her fourth straight game with at least 10 rebounds, but it was not enough as the IPFW women's basketball team suffered a tough loss at home to South Dakota State 61-42.
Gary earned a game-high 11 rebounds for her fourth consecutive game with 10 or more rebounds. It marked the first time an IPFW player has gone fourth straight game with double-digit boards in its Division I history, and is only the fifth player in program history. The last Mastodon to accomplish the feat was Hall of Fame inductee and former All-American, Lisa Miller (five straight) from Feb. 18-Nov. 17, 1989.
Rachel Rinehart had a team-high four assists and three steals, while Kamilah Carter put up a team-high 12 points for the 'Dons.
IPFW scored its first points of the game with a basket inside from Gary at the 7:32 mark. The Mastodons pushed the Jackrabbits, closing out the first quarter with a 3-pointer from Carter to narrow the South Dakota State lead to 14-12.
The second quarter started slow for both teams with seven combined points in the first 5:32 of the period. Fallis sank a three-pointer with an assist from Rinehart to tie the game 19-19 with 3:16 left in the half. The Jackrabbits took the lead back with a 6-2 run before the break, 25-21.
Carter opened the second half with another three, cutting South Dakota State's lead to one, 25-24. That would be as close as the 'Dons would get as SDSU closed the game with a 25-10 advantage as IPFW went 2-of-13 from the field in the fourth quarter.
The 'Dons connected on 13-of-48 (27.1%) from the floor, including 5-of-6 (31.3%) from beyond the arc, and 11-of-15 (73.3%) at the free throw line.
IPFW travels to Oral Roberts on January 16 with tipoff scheduled for 3 p.m. ET.
