OMAHA, Neb. – Redshirt-senior Max Landis/Indianapolis scored a game and career-high 37 points to lead IPFW to a thrilling 106-101 men's college basketball Summit League overtime road victory at Omaha on Saturday afternoon at Baxter Arena in Omaha, Nebraska. Landis set a new school Division I single-game scoring record with his 37 points, and it equals the fifth-best single-game total all-time, while his nine three-point field goals (9-12) equal the program's Division I record that he also accomplished earlier this season against Austin Peay (12/12, 9-12 3FGs). Redshirt-freshman John Konchar/Chicago, Ill. added 27 points and a game-high 12 rebounds for his second consecutive and fifth double-double this season for the visiting Mastodons (15-5, 4-1 Summit League), who led 50-37 at halftime. Jake White led the host Mavericks (12-7, 4-1 Summit League), who had their six-game winning streak stopped, with his own double-double of 26 points and 11 rebounds, while Devin Patterson added 24 points. IPFW returns to Fort Wayne to host North Dakota State at the Gates Sports Center on Thursday night, January 21, at 7 p.m.
IPFW opened the contest with a three-pointer from Landis just 31 seconds in and the Mastodons jumped out to a 33-14 advantage at 10:09. Landis added three more triples among his 18 early points for the visitors, while Konchar along with seniors Michael Calder/Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and Joe Reed/Greenwood each contributed three-pointers, as well. Omaha rallied back to within 42-34 at 3:01, getting eight quick points from White. IPFW, however, closed the period with an 8-3 run to lead 50-37 at the intermission – getting two more three-pointers from Landis and an offensive rebound tip-in from Konchar. Landis had 24 points at halftime, making 8-10 field goals, including 6-6 three-pointers and 2-2 free throws, while Konchar and Reed had nine and eight points, respectively.
IPFW led 57-41 early in the second half at 18:13, getting a quick basket from redshirt-junior Brent Calhoun/Indianapolis before a three-pointer and two free throws by Konchar. Omaha fought back with a 17-2 run to close to within 59-58 at 14:15, getting points from five different players. The Mastodons, though, demonstrated their resilience and answered with a 12-1 run to lead 71-60 at 11:43, getting points from five different players, as well, including three-pointers from Landis and freshman Charles Ruise Jr./Glen St. Mary, Fla. The two teams battled down the stretch and Omaha finally tied it for the first time at 87-87 with 1:57 left in regulation, and the Mavericks took their first lead at 90-89 with 1:26 on the clock via a three-pointer by Tra-Deon Hollins. Landis answered with a triple at 0:33 to make it 92-90, but White tied it again at 92-92 with a pair of free throws with 19 seconds left to play. IPFW missed a three-point attempt at the end of regulation and the extra five minutes ensued.

The Mavericks missed on two more late three-pointers, too.
