
No. 21 IPFW Hosts North Dakota State In Summit League Action Thursday Night

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- IPFW, ranked No. 21 in this week's CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25, will welcome North Dakota State University in Summit League men's basketball action on Thursday night, January 21, at the Hilliard Gates Sports Center on campus in Fort Wayne beginning at 7 p.m. The Mastodons (15-5, 4-1 Summit League) of second-year head coach Jon Coffman have been led in scoring by redshirt-senior Max Landis/Indianapolis (17.4), redshirt-freshman John Konchar/Chicago, Ill. (12.7) along with senior Joe Reed/Greenwood (10.6). The Bison (13-6, 3-2 Summit League) are coached by David Richman, who is in his second season, and have been led in scoring by sophomores Paul Miller (16.6) and A.J. Jacobson (13.4).

Landis scored a game and career-high 37 points to lead IPFW to a thrilling 106-101 Summit League overtime road victory at Omaha. The Mastodons opened the contest with a three-pointer from Landis just 31 seconds in and jumped out to a 33-14 advantage at 10:09, leading 50-37 at halftime. IPFW led 57-41 early in the second half at 18:13, getting a quick basket from redshirt-junior Brent Calhoun before a three-pointer and two free throws by Konchar. Omaha fought back with a 17-2 run to close to within 59-58 at 14:15, getting points from five different players. The Mastodons, though, demonstrated their resilience and answered with a 12-1 run to lead 71-60 at 11:43, getting points from five different players, as well, including three-pointers from Landis and freshman Charles Ruise Jr. The two teams battled down the stretch and Omaha finally tied it for the first time at 87-87 with 1:57 left in regulation, and the Mavericks took their first lead at 90-89 with 1:26 on the clock via a three-pointer. Landis answered with a triple at 0:33 to make it 92-90, but Omaha tied it again at 92-92 with a pair of free throws with 19 seconds left to play. IPFW missed a three-point attempt at the end of regulation and the extra five minutes ensued. The two teams battled to begin the overtime with three ties and four lead changes leaving it tied at 101-101 with 1:50 on the clock. Calhoun scored six quick points for the Mastodons, and Reed connected on a three-pointer. Senior Michael Calder put IPFW ahead for good with his three-pointer at 0:27, and after a missed three-pointer by Omaha, Landis made two free throws with nine seconds left to secure the exciting road triumph for the Mastodons.

He set a new school Division I single-game scoring record with his 37 points, and it equals the fifth-best single-game total all-time, while his nine three-point field goals (9-12) equal the program's Division I record that he also accomplished earlier this season. John Konchar added 27 points and a game-high 12 rebounds for his fifth collegiate double-double, second-straight, along with five assists. Calhoun and Calder each finished with 12 points for the Mastodons, with Calhoun adding a career-high nine rebounds and tied his career-high with a game-high three blocks, while Calder added five rebounds and four assists. Reed had 11 points, as all five starters scored in double-figures, along with a game and career-high three blocks. IPFW shot 52% (39-75) from the field, including 55% (17-31) on three-pointers and 22% (11-12) at the free throw line.
