IPFW Earns First Summit League Win With Victory Over Denver

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW women's basketball team earned its first Summit League victory, defeating Denver 61-49, as part of its ninth annual Pink Out.
Josie Fisher had a game-high 13 points to help snap an 11-game winless streak for the 'Dons. Fisher also had a team-high four assists and three steals.
Kamilah Carter put up 11 points and pulled down four rebounds. Rachel Rinehart added 10 points and a team-high six rebounds for IPFW. Isis Parker played a career-high 25 minutes, scoring nine points, and getting four boards. Courtney Ogle contributed eight points and five rebounds for the Mastodons.
Denver got off to an early 6-0 lead in the first quarter, before IPFW's defense held the Pioneers scoreless for nearly five minutes of play. The first field goal for the 'Dons came at the 2:40 mark with a layup from KeShyra McCarver, who scored all of the Mastodon's points in the first quarter.
The 'Dons earned their first lead of the game, 10-9, at the 7:29 mark of the second quarter with a jumper from Fisher as a part of a 12-0 stretch by IPFW. The Mastodons went into the half with a 23-20 lead over the Pioneers.
Parker scored the first points of the third quarter off a steal. IPFW followed by going on a 15-4 run, thanks to seven straight points from Parker, giving the team a 38-24 advantage over Denver with 2:55 to play. The Pioneers turned around and used a 12-3 advantage to close out the period narrowing the Mastodon's lead to 41-36.
Rinehart opened the scoring in the fourth quarter before IPFW went on a 13-5 run to go up 54-41 with 2:44 remaining in regulation. Fisher closed out the game scoring off back-to-back steals to ensure the Mastodon's victory.
As a team, the 'Dons connected on 23-of-61 (37.7%) from the floor, including 4-of-22 (18.2%) on three-point attempts, and 11-of-16 (68.8%) from the free throw line.
IPFW travels to MaComb, Illinois on February 4 to face Western Illinois for an 8 p.m. ET tip.
