Gary Earns Second Straight Double-Double in Loss

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - After a stellar third quarter comeback, the IPFW women's basketball team was unable to hold off Western Illinois as it fell 78-74 to the Leathernecks.
Keanna Gary earned the Mastodon's first double-double in consecutive games since Stephanie Rosado in November 2010. Gary finished with a career-high 16 rebounds to go along with 10 points. Kamilah Carter and Josie Fisher tied with a team-high 21 points. Fisher finished the night converting on 13-of-14 at the free throw line. Rachel Rinehart added a game-high four assists for the 'Dons.
After leading most of the first quarter, IPFW was unable to keep up the pace in the second as Western Illinois went on a 14-1 run and closed the half with a 37-28 advantage over the Mastodons.
The 'Dons made a late in the third quarter as Fisher connected on four straight free throws, with the final one giving IPFW its first lead since the 6:09 mark of the second. Carter capped off a 17-3 run by hitting a layup with 3:16 to play in the third quarter to give the Mastodons a 45-42 lead over WIU.
The 'Dons were unable to hold on to their hot streak in the fourth quarter as the Leathernecks closed out the game with a 12-5 run.
As a team, the Mastodons connected on 25-of-68 (36.8%) of their field goal attempts, including 3-of-13 (23.1%) from beyond the arc, and 21-of-28 (75.0%) at the free throw line.
IPFW will return to the court on January 9 at 3 p.m. ET to take on Summit League foe Denver as a part of a double-header with the men's team in Colorado.
